Samuel Jesse Curtis

Born on August 4, 1926 to Charlie Manuel Curtis, Sr and Eula Chance Curtis in Fluker, LA. He was the fifth often children born to Eula Curtis. Close to the end of WWII at the age of 18 he was drafted to the United StatesArmy. He was inducted into the Army on January 10, 1945 into the 3066 th Quartermaster Laundry Company.Trained as a sharpshooter, he was given the occupation of Guard Patrolman in the United States Army MilitaryPolice. Deployed August 3, 1945, one day before his 19 th birthday, to the Asiatic Pacific Theater to serve hiscountry in the Philippines. On September 23, 1946, he set sail for home and was honorably discharged at FortSam Houston, Texas on December 4, 1946. Upon discharge he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific TheaterCampaign ribbon, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, Philippine Independence ribbon, and the WWII Victoryribbon. After returning home, he worked many years as a plant operator until his retirement. He was employedby Morse and Ory Gravel Pitt which later became Gifford Hill Gravel Pitt.He was a member of Fluker Chapel AME Church for 60 plus years. His current Pastor was Rev. LovellMcCray.April 3, 1952, he married Alice Luvenia Johnson. They were married 41 years until the time of her death,October 26, 1993. He leaves to mourn six daughters, -Barbara Curtis-Smith (Children: Aimee, Cordero,Richard), Sherlene Curtis-Simmon (Spouse: Paul Simmon) (Children: Tiya, Alisa, Latonya, Abimelech),Katherine Curtis-Thomas (Children: Kasia, Kristal), Patsy Cryer Jones (Spouse: Tyrone Jones) (Children:Ladonna, Damon, Tara, Tyrone), Connie Williams Phillips) (Children: Conneshia, Charles, Larquavia), andLinda Butler (Spouse: Keith Butler) (Children: Lakeisha, Keith, Joseph). He was preceded in death by hisparents, a daughter Sandra Kay Quillin (Children: Hennessy, Halston, Colby, Keaton), 9 siblings, Archie Cryer,Milton Cryer, William Cryer Sr. (Uncle Bill), Charlie Manuel Curtis Jr (Uncle Jack), Josephine Curtis Berry(Aunt Jo), Johnnie Wilton Curtis, Freddie Curtis, Edgar Curtis (Willow), Roy Lee Curtis, Sr., 38 greatgrandchildren, 3 twice great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Samuel Jesse Curtis has been andwill always be loved greatly, and will be missed immensely.
