Jeanette Wilson Armato

How do you measure the life of a woman who gave of herself selflessly? It is with profound sadness that the family of Jeanette Wilson Armato announce her peaceful passing at her home in Independence, LA on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 91 years. A memorial gathering at Jeanette’s home will be announced at a later date. Jeanette was born on September 5, 1931 to Morris L. Wilson and Eula Day Wilson. She is preceded in death by both parents, three brothers, M.L. and Calvin Wilson, and Richard Dunn, and two sisters, Evelyn Pittman and Rita Dunn Blades. Also preceding her in death are her former husband, Michael J. Armato Sr., daughter, Judy Armato Lato, and her beloved dog, Winston. Jeanette is survived by brother, Robert Leroy Wilson and wife, Margaret Ann, brother Charles Dunn, sister Dianne Dunn Scott and husband Danny, son Michael Armato and wife Crecia, daughter Lena Armato Agnello, son Gary Armato, and daughter Cherri Armato Tyler. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael J. Armato, Jr., David Armato, Chasity Armato Liuzza, Shannon Russelles, Michelle Armato Crowe, Kimberly Agnello Dobraska, Emily Tyler Singleton, and Charles M. Lato. She was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and was three weeks shy of being a great-great grandmother for the first time. A native of Kentwood, Jeanette made her home and raised her family in Independence. She was known to many as “Mrs. Jan”. She retired from the Tangipahoa Parish School System after 30 years of faithful service as a school food service worker at Independence Elementary School. Jeanette was known to all as an exemplary cook and baker and a spotless housekeeper. She loved children, especially babies, and cared for several children at her home for years after her retirement. Jeanette will be remembered as a caregiver, a faithful servant to others who never asked for much nor complained. Although petite in stature, she was a very strong woman, a hard worker who appreciated the little things in life. Jeanette was a woman of faith and believed in the promise of life everlasting. She will be missed by so many. A special thanks goes to her son, Gary, who cared for her around the clock in her later years and to North Oaks Hospice Care for their support as well.
