Laurie Ann Richard Wilson Callens entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, July 11th, 2021. Laurie was born on December 13th, 1965 to Shelby Wilson Sr. and Marilyn Richard Wilson. She was a native of Gretna, LA. Laurie graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School, New Orleans Louisiana, and was conferred with a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University, New Orleans Louisiana. She worked in the banking industry as a Financial Analyst. A lifelong learner, Laurie continued studying and achieved certification as a Master Gardener while working in community gardens in New Orleans. Laurie worked with the American Diabetes Association as an Event Planner/Fundraiser in many states including Louisiana, California, and Illinois. Helping the community was on her mind after Hurricane Katrina. She stayed behind during recovery efforts and helped elders in Gretna's neighborhoods with meals. Laurie was the ultimate home economics and interior decorating aficionado. From sewing her own wedding dress, home curtains, and more to flipping houses after Katrina she did it all. She was known by many as a "foodie" and spent many hours reading cookbooks, watching cooking shows, and trying new foods and recipes. Laurie was very sentimental and kept countless keepsakes over the years. She loved reading poems. She also loved mysteries and watching legal shows such as "Law and Order", "CSI" and "Bull". Listening to music was another one of Laurie's favorite things to do. Laurie was the loving mother of Kevin Callens Jr. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Eli and Leta M. Howard Wilson and Joseph and Mollie Batiste Richard, parents Shelby Wilson Sr. and Marilyn Richard Wilson. Laurie is survived by her son Kevin Callens Jr., her sisters Deborah and Linda Wilson, her brothers Shelby Wilson Jr. and Christopher Wilson, nephews and nieces Asia Wilson, Victor Wilson, Vincent Wilson and Destiny Langs, great-nephew, Jordan Wells, Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Laurie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Cross Memorial Funeral Home of Amite, LA is in charge of arrangements.
