Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Kevin Peter Callens, Sr. affectionately known as "Kevie" by his wife, Lesia, was born January 29, 1961in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kevin's heavenly father sent an angel to escort him home on April 15, 2021 at the age of 60 at Ochsner Hospital Westbank Campus. He was born to the late Daniel Lee Callens, Sr. and Leah Brown Callens of Harvey, Louisiana. He was the beloved husband of Lesia Joseph Callens, father of Kevin Peter Callens, Jr. and Nina Truitt. Kevin has been a member of Bible-Way Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent Robert P. Jones, Sr and later Chairman Elder Ishmael Jackson. Kevin was employed by Entergy of Louisiana for thirty plus years and City Park Caterers for several years. Kevin had several loves in life beside his beautiful wife, Lesia, he loved volunteering to feed the homeless at the Gretna Community Center and he even served the homeless at an event by Troy Carter. Until he became ill, he volunteered for several years at the Gretna Community Center, and he was always asked to come back the next year. Kevin had a love for dressing in an array of suits and multi-colored shirts that were the topic of conversation at his church that has been passed down to his son. Besides being a classy dresser, Kevin had a love for cooking and baking. This led him to meet several people of whom he did special events at their homes of such meals like grits and griot, or catering the Zulu Ball's president's table. Kevin's mother would say, "He is a lover of mission," because he always was feeding people like the homeless that lived underneath the Crescent City Connection Bridge that he would bring breakfast to most mornings on his way to work. Due to his love for cooking and catering, he was featured in the Louisiana Life Magazine displaying his many cooking talents. Everyone that knew him loved him, and he will be truly missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Lesia Joseph Callens; his children, Kevin Peter Callens, Jr. and Nina Truitt; his endearing mother, Leah Brown Callens; one brother, Daniel Lee Callens, Jr. (Anna Raydette); two sisters, Glenda Callens Cross (Joseph) and Deborah Ann Callens; a dear, loving mother-n-law, Ethel Saul Joseph; two sisters-n-law, Cynthia Johnson and Gail Jones (Joseph); a devoted cousin who was like a brother to him, Fred Michael Beauford; two God daughters, Danielle Leighann Callens and Leah Marie Cross; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Lee Callens, Sr., and his grandparents, Foy Lee Callens and Julie Jackson Callens, Wilfred Brown, Sr. and Marguerite Thomas Brown; his father-n-law, Octave Joseph; two brothers-n-law, Jason Joseph (Gilda) and Lawrence Joseph.
