Ruth Brumfield

Ruth Neomia Johnson was born on February 11, 1934 in Loranger, Louisiana to the late Deacon Nathaniel Johnson and the late Mother Mary Andrews McGee Johnson. She was the youngest of 15 children. On Friday, March 23 rd an angel dispatched at her bedside, gently took her by the hand and quietly escorted her from labor to reward. In the early 1940's, Ruth was educated at the Loranger Colored School on Milk Plant Road in Loranger, Louisiana. She met Mr. James H. Brumfield and later on in time on February 28, 1948, they were wedded in Holy Matrimony. To this union, six children were born. Ruth Brumfield accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Tom Vaughn. She was a faithful and committed member of St. John Temple Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Willie Graves Sr. and the current Pastor Willie Graves Jr., where she faithfully served until her health failed. Mother Brumfield was an active Praise Team Member with a beautiful voice. She loved singing various songs and hymns and always kept a melody in her heart. For many years, she faithfully served God and her local church as a Church Mother, the Adult Sunday School teacher and President of the Pastor's Aide committee. Mother Brumfield was a phenomenally loving mother and homemaker. For many years, she was employed with the Tangipahoa Parish School System as a Food Service worker until her retirement. She was a special lady who was loved by so many and her life, love, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those that were blessed to know her. She leaves to cherish her memories, five children, Robietine (Willie) Graves Jr., Lesley (Mary) Brumfield Sr., Elaine Jackson, Sam (Myrtle) Brumfield all of Hammond, La. and Gwendolyn (Kenneth) Burton of Ponchatoula, La. One sister (Mary Ann Page) of Elk Grove, California. She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, 2 special granddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, (Deacon Nathaniel & Mother Mary A. M. Johnson), 13 siblings, her husband (James H. Brumfield), 1 son (Jarvis Brumfield), 1 great grandchild (James Harris Jr.), and 1 great great grandchild (Hope Harris)
